Welcome to the Andre Center for Breast Cancer Education and Navigation

Sandra Walters This program has recently been developed to provide a direct service to women and men with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Our primary goal is to offer credible information on treatment options, coaching help with decisions, assistance with navigating the healthcare system and connections to needed resources. We also act as a resource to referring physicians and the treatment team by supporting effective communication between providers.

As the program director and a nurse who has specialized in breast health and breast cancer education & navigation for the last eight years, I will be your primary contact for services or questions. My experience primarily comes from developing two hospital based comprehensive breast programs, acting as a clinical advisor for national breast cancer treatment education materials and in coaching hundreds of breast cancer patients through the maze of decisions, care providers and needed resources. My family history of breast cancer gives additional perspective to the challenges and emotional difficulties that one can face.

At the Andre Center, our mission and passion is to help patients and their families get to the resources they need in a timely manner. We are very excited to bring this unique community outreach effort to Colorado and look forward to providing this service to patients, and their healthcare providers.

THE MISSING LINK

Could spirituality or prayer be your missing link? A diagnosis of breast cancer can bring even the strongest of people to their knees. As we explore our journey toward health, it is important to recognize that we are multi-dimensional people. If you are interested in support through prayer, please click here

Sandra Walters Honored as Yoplait Champion
for Making Extraordinary Strides in the
Fight Against Breast Cancer

"Up until my diagnosis, breast cancer had never been a part of my world. Being told that I had breast cancer was both scary and devastating. I had a thousand unanswered questions and had to wait five long days before I was able to meet with a doctor. If an organization such as the Andre' Center had been available to me at the time, it would have made a tremendous difference. Days can seem endless when you are left alone with your thoughts and fears. Without question, Sandra Walters has a mission like no other - to help women between the time of diagnosis and the time of treatment."

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has awarded a 17-month contract to the Andre Center for Breast Cancer Education and Navigation to provide education and treatment navigation services to women diagnosed with breast cancer through the Colorado Women's Wellness Connection (WWC). The contract will meet the needs of over 100 underserved women this year. This is a pioneering effort for both the Andre Center and Colorado in that few states offer such services to women in a community and public health setting.

The Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has just announced approval for funding of the Andre Center's Community Outreach Breast Cancer Education and Navigation Project. The Andre Center will provide services to breast cancer patients who are underserved in the Denver Komen service area. Funding from Komen will start in April of 2007 and continue through March of 2008.
